On&On, a Scranton boutique specializing in vintage, handmade & repurposed wares, has just moved to a much larger space! Their Wax Junky candles are a favorite and often housed in vintage local glass, like the Mid-Valley Beverage one featured here. We can’t wait to snag some for gifts for our vintage & local loving friends!
So you’ve recently moved On&On into a much larger space. Tell us a little about this exciting move!
We are so excited to be in our new building at 1138 Capouse Ave. After two years on Lackawanna Ave in Scranton, we had outgrown our space and were ready to buy and rehab a much bigger building just a mile from downtown. Our new space gives our artists and vendors more room to display their product in addition to giving us room for even more artists and vendors. Early next year we’ll be opening the second floor and will have double the space for even more handmade, repurposed and vintage finds.
When did you start On&On?
I’ve always loved vintage and repurposing but about 10 years ago I started making things out of vintage fabrics…. when I met my boyfriend, Andrew, he wanted to repurpose with me – so he started making WaxJunky candles out of vintage bottles. We would do shows but wanted to some how turn it in to a retail business. In 2014, we decided to open a marketplace where other people like us could rent space and set up their own vintage, handmade or repurposed shop within our shop. Andrew had previously owned a small business and I had worked for 12 years in business development and marketing for a local Scranton company.
What are you planning to have for sale at ScrantonMade Holiday Market?
We will be selling our VintageMeegan vintage fabric purses and homegoods, Our WaxJunky soy candles in repurposed bottles, our Mechanical Concepts steampunk and automotive inspired lighting, and our Paper Fuschia jewelry handmade from Japanese Yuzen paper.
Do you have a most popular item with holiday shoppers?
Our WaxJunky candles usually go very fast! We make them out of repurposed liquor bottles along with vintage soda bottles…. shoppers love to buy a favorite kind of liquor bottle to give as a gift. All WaxJunky candles come in little sacks with matches… so it makes a nice little gift.
Do you have any new products our readers should know about?
Shawn from Mechanical Concepts has started making lights out of repurposed fans… that actually spin around. They are amazing. He won’t tell us how he gets them to spin without tangling up the cord….
