Gravity Line Forge is an exciting new vendor at the Holiday Market. This husband and wife duo does it all…hand forged homewares, forged Christmas ornaments and gorgeous forged copper jewelry! They are even working on a special forged Christmas train ornament just for the Holiday Market!!! Know what else would make a great holiday gift? Blacksmith lessons for that special guy (or gal) in your life – they do that too!
Tell us a little about when you started Gravity Line Forge and how you got into blacksmithing.
Our home based blacksmith shop was opened in 2014. It’s in Lake Ariel, it’s on our 10 acre property which borders the old Gravity Line Railroad, which ran coal through the mountains of Wayne and Lackawanna counties. Before we moved as a family to Lake Ariel, I lived above a friend’s blacksmith shop in Stroudsburg and that is how I became interested in the art. After over 20 years of being a stone mason, I hurt my back. When I started rehab I started working in the blacksmith shop and became immersed in the process and the rest is history!
What will you be selling at the Holiday Market?
We are selling hand forged home wares, including things like fire tool sets, hooks, towel rings, kitchen and bathroom accessories, bottle openers (fantastic stocking stuffers), along with forged Christmas ornaments (we are working on a train one just for the Scranton show), and my wife Mary has learned to weld and we have a whole line of horseshoe craft, including horseshoe snowmen, angels, Christmas trees, horseshoe wine racks, etc. She also makes Forged copper jewelry which we will be selling.
Do you have a favorite item to make?
My favorite item to forge is fire tongs, I find the designs intriguing and love the challenge of figuring out how they’re made.
Is there anything else you want our readers to know?
I give beginner blacksmith lessons in my shop. The first lesson is 3-4 hours and is $60.00. I believe in keeping the price reasonable to see if it is something the person is interested in pursuing. Lessons make a great gift for Christmas and we have found it popular for Father’s Day as well. Call 570 856 3123 to learn more.
