If you have visited First Fridays or Lavish Body+Home, you may have seen Valerie Kiser’s artwork. Her most popular selling design is her rendition of the beloved Scranton Electric City sign. Which is on everything from a baby onesie to a holiday ornament! This year at the Holiday Market, not only has ScrantonMade and Valerie Kiser Design partnered with the Century Club of Scranton to collect food and personal items to be distributed among local charities, but Valerie will be offering a variety of unique Scranton products!

Tell us a little about your company. What inspired you to start your own business?
Valerie Kiser Design became official in January 2010. I was looking for a way to be more connected to myself and my community. My love for fashion and interior design guided me in the direction I still follow today. The idea was, and still is, to create clean and simple designs that are unique but familiar for hand-printed clothing, accessories, and home decor with a niche market for custom design for individuals and businesses. Running my own business challenges me daily and pushes me outside my own little box.
You are running a food drive at the Holiday Market. Can you tell us about that?
Thank you for asking, yes! The ScrantonMade Holiday Market and Valerie Kiser Design partnered with the Century Club of Scranton to collect food and personal items to be distributed among local charities.
We are asking for the most essential items needed for food banks and shelters. Items such as peanut butter, canned chicken/tuna, almonds, mac n’ cheese single serving, milk 8oz shelf stable box, 100% fruit juice shelf stable box/bottle, fruit cup single serving, toothbrush, tooth paste, bar soap, sweatshirts, winter hats, mittens, underwear and socks.
People can bring their donations and place them in designated boxes on the way into the market.
What types of items/mediums do you work with?
I am a mixed media artist and designer that uses marker, paint, textile ink, sewing and digital media design on a regular basis for work and for fun.
What kinds of work will you be featuring at the holiday market?
So many exciting products and collaborations for the Marketplace this year…
1. A collaboration with Annie Cadden from FisherCat Fiber Co to create one off woven rugs from my 2015 studio fabric remnants.
2. I designed my own line of black, white and grey patterned fabrics to collaborate with Rae Bradley of Headwraps by Rae. We are launching head wraps and baby bibdanas at the Holiday Marketplace. And plan to launch our infant and toddler hand made bloomer and rompers in Spring/Summer 2017.
3. Featuring the exclusive Globe Store design I did for Lauren and Micah Woodard of Lavish Body&Home. We partnered to create a line of hand-printed eco tote bags, designer throw pillows and keep sake holiday Globe Store ornament.
4. And the most popular selling design of mine is my rendition of the beloved Scranton Electric City sign. Which is on everything from a baby onesie to a holiday ornament.
