Where are you based?
Terra Preta is based in downtown Scranton. 222 Wyoming Ave. Also known as the Ritz Building. Our name is in lights on the building marquee so you can’t miss us!
What kind of restaurant is Terra Preta?
Terra Preta is a farm to table restaurant. What that means is that we offer local fresh food. We offer local meat. Dairy, vegetables, fruit and honey. Since the food we use is local that also means that we offer a seasonal menu. Our menu changes four times a year with each season. We work closely with our local farmers to figure out what their next season crops look like and use that information to design our next menu. Everything is made from scratch at Terra Preta, the bread, soups, sauces, dressing and even our ketchup! We also can, jar and preserve fresh food throughout the Spring and Summer to utilize on our menu throughout the Fall and Winter.
What are some items on the menu for the Holiday Market?
At the Holiday Market we will be serving food all weekend long.
On Friday night we will be serving chili, soup and our famous pies. We have a Chicken Pie, Meat Pie and Veggie Pie. We also have some yummy desserts. Vegan, Gluten Free Carrot cake. Vegan Chocolate cupcakes and Snowflake sugar cookies.
For Saturday, in addition to Pies, Chili, Soup and dessert we will be serving a Chick pea curry rice bowl, a pulled pork sandwich with ginger sriracha sauce, pickled carrots and cucumbers on a roll and a mixed green salad with ginger turmeric dressing.
On Sunday we will be offering a made to order brunch service that includes, omelets, pancakes, oatmeal, and yogurt parfait.
Food will be available for take-out as well as dine in.
In addition to our food menu we will be serving wine, beer and holiday inspired cocktails including spiked hot chocolate.
Are you serving anything to pay homage to the Charl-mont?
We will not serving any food to pay homage to the Charl-mont but our level of care and service of the fresh local food we are preparing will be a re-embrace of the style of service that the community is used to expect from the Charl-mont. We made sure to have a variety of comfort food so you can relax and feel the nostalgic holiday spirit within this space.
How has it been owning a restaurant business in Scranton, PA?
Scranton has been so supportive to Terra Preta. The downtown businesses are always ready to collaborate. The community in Scranton has been so energetic and we are so grateful to be accepted. It has been rewarding to have guests continue to come back and tell us how memorable their experience is here with us and how important it is to have a restaurant like Terra Preta in the community.
Do you have an absolute favorite plate (or best seller)?
One of our best selling dishes is our pies. This is why we made sure that we are serving them at the Holiday Market. The vegetables, meat and chicken are all local. Each pie is served in a puff pastry and freshly baked. They are delicious, filling and the perfect comfort food.
