One of the most exciting parts about each new festival season is discovering new-to-us artists working & living in our region. Abbey of StoneFawx Studios in Peckville creates custom art pieces that become family heirlooms as well as beautiful invitations and fun art prints! Be sure to check out StoneFawx Studios at this year’s Arts on the Square on July 29th!
How and when did you start StoneFawx Studios?
I’m a graphic designer by trade from Peckville, PA. I began my career in Philadelphia and relocated home in 2011. I began offering calligraphy, art, wedding invitations, and signage in 2016. In combination with the design services I already offered, it naturally became StoneFawx Studios.
What types of work will you be featuring at AOTS?
I will be offering ready made ‘Wordy’ designs, original art, and customizable calligraphy pieces.
Tell us a little about the custom work you offer?
The majority of what I do is actually custom. I offer invitations for any occasion and custom art where I like to work closely with my client to perfectly capture their vision. This is the best part of my job.
Do you have a favorite piece and why?
I especially love a recent watercolor quote commission I did for an anniversary gift. My client gave me just the quote and trusted me to design it however I felt suited it best. I ended up going with a new floral style I now really love. I think trying new techniques or mediums is the best way to surprise yourself as an artist (and works out for your client too!), even though it can be scary to worry about messing up on a tight deadline.
What is the inspiration for your work?
I like to think my art is inspired by my colleagues. The calligrapher and illustrator community is really incredible; they are the most encouraging and helpful bunch of people I’ve ever known. It’s great to be able to have thousands of professionals ready and happy to help if you need it. They inspire me to improve or try new things all the time.
Is there anything else you would like our readers to know?
Calligraphy isn’t just for stuffy weddings anymore! There are so many brands utilizing it for logos, artwork, and advertising – it’s a really versatile art form.
